Membership Categories and Definitions:
The goal of membership categories in the Dune Sea Garrison is to properly identify where an individual is on their progress towards full and total membership in the 501st Legion. To this end, the following categories of membership will govern membership in the Dune Sea Garrison.
"Visitor" - Non-Member User
Users who wish to post information on the Garrison’s message boards and interact with members, but do not qualify for membership based on residency or the fact that they do not wish to do an Imperial costume or participate officially in Garrison activities. Visitors are Non-Members and only receive access to the public portion of the message boards. The only requirement for visitors is to provide the minimum information asked for to register, and agree to adhere to the posting rules and regulations outlined on the boards.
"Jr. Cadet" - Underage Pre-Membership
Users between the ages of 13 and 18* living within the Garrison's boundaries who have (or are working on**) an Imperial costume (or sympathizer). Junior Cadets are listed as “Potential Members”. A Junior Cadet has access to portions of the private forums and may post and reply to messages. They do not however have any voting privileges.
"Imperial Recruit" – Adult Pre-Membership
Users living within the Garrison boundaries who have (or are working on**) an Imperial costume (or sympathizer). Imperial Recruits are Potential Members. An Imperial Recruit has access to portions of the private forums and may post and reply to messages. An Imperial Recruit also has some voting privileges. Their voting privileges are limited to non-501st related issues.
“Significant Other” – Dune Sea Garrison Spouse or Significant Other
The Dune Sea Garrison recognizes that significant contributions and support can be made by people who are either not interested in or not eligible for membership in the Garrison but who are either married to, or dating a DSG Member. A Significant Other has access to portions of the private forums and may post and reply to messages. A Significant Other also has some voting privileges. Their voting privileges are limited to non-501st related issues.
“501st Member” – Members of the 501st but not of the DSG
Users who are full members of the 501st, having been assigned their unique four-digit identification number but are not members of the Dune Sea Garrison. A 501st Member has access to portions of the private forums and may post and reply to messages. A 501st member has no voting privileges.
"DSG Member" – Full Membership in the DSG
Users who have a completed Imperial costume (or sympathizer) AND have been accepted into the Imperial 501st Legion and who live within the boundaries of the Dune Sea Garrison (Arizona). Upon admission to the Legion, members are assigned a unique four-digit identification number with a prefix code applicable to their costume choice. The Dune Sea Garrison adheres to the 501st Legion's application process and prefix codes for costume classifications and definitions. Members are listed as “DSG Members”. DSG Members have full access to the private forums. DSG Members have full voting rights on both 501st and non-501st related issues.
*Juvenile Participation and Waivers
Juvenile participation is welcome in the Garrison, with certain limitations. No juveniles under the age of 13 are encouraged to officially participate, and they are not eligible for membership as a Junior Cadet. Juveniles between the age of 13 and 18 are eligible for membership as a Jr. Cadet, provided one or both custodial parents is a Imperial Recruit or Full Member of the Garrison. Liability in this case is assessed to the member parent. Juveniles between the ages of sixteen and seventeen are eligible for membership as a Jr. Cadet, provided one or both custodial parents is a Imperial Recruit or Full Member of the Garrison OR one or both custodial parents sign a participation waiver acknowledging their juvenile’s participation is subject to the conditions listed on the waiver, the most important being the Garrison’s exemption from liability in regards to the juvenile’s participation.
"In-Progress" Costume
Status of an "in progress" costume(s) will be evaluated quarterly by the XO, and semi-annually by the GML in the course of their official census. This is to encourage progress and offer assistance, NOT to persecute and discourage effort. But a total lack of progress cannot be accepted. Exceptions to this would be military service, incapacitating illness or injury, etc.
Honorary Membership
The Dune Sea Garrison recognizes that significant contributions and support can be made by people who are either not interested in or not eligible for membership in the Garrison. We therefore provide for an “honorary” membership, which helps the Garrison to recognize these individuals and their contributions, and serve to express our gratitude and association with them.
A name can be submitted for honorary membership by any member of the Garrison. All submissions should include a citation of the reason(s) the candidate deserves honorary membership. The submission is made to the CO (or designee). The CO will present the name and accompanying citation to the officers for a vote. Honorary membership must be approved by a majority vote of the Garrison officers. Once approved, honorary membership should be officially bestowed in a manner befitting the honoree.
Honorary members enjoy the privileges of “Jr. Cadet” status, including access to ‘members only’ forums. Honorary members do not have voting privileges.
Honorary members are displayed in the honorary member section of the Garrison webpage, but are not recognized at the Legion level unless honorary status is granted on the Legion level as well.
Emeritus Status
Circumstances may arise where a member must move out of the Garrison’s boundaries despite their own wishes. Where this member has served in an exemplary fashion and the member wishes to maintain a continued association with the Garrison, “emeritus” status may be granted.
A member can be nominated for emeritus status by any member of the Garrison, including the member themselves. The nomination should be submitted to the CO (or designee). The CO will present the name to the officers for a vote. Emeritus status must be approved by a majority vote of the Garrison officers.
Emeritus members enjoy all of the privileges of “501st Member” status, including access to ‘members only’ forums. Emeritus members do not have voting privileges.
Emeritus members are displayed in the emeritus members section of the Garrison webpage, but are not recognized at the Legion level.
The Garrison, as a unit of the Legion, exists to foster local identity and to encourage teamwork and fraternity.
The Dune Sea Garrison currently covers the entire state of Arizona. The Garrison will maintain a membership of at least twenty five (25) members at all times. The formation of a new Garrison within current Garrison boundaries may not bring the number of Dune Sea Garrison members below this minimum standard. Should membership allow for the formation of a new Garrison within current boundaries, effected members of the Dune Sea Garrison will follow the new Garrison application process outlined in the Legion charter.
